It was unlimited joy yesterday for Gogo Jambaya, born Cecilia Manyike, when she received a wheelchair from Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) representatives based in Chipinge South Constituency.
Gogo Jambaya had her legs blown off by a landmine up to the knees as she tilled her fields in Ward 28 in 1987.
Since then, Gogo Jambaya has been struggling to walk to the restrooms, bathroom, and was naturally unable to till the land again.
She also had to crawl to the nearest clinic if she fell ill or would be driven on a wheelbarrow by her son or relatives.
But all those challenges ended on February 7, 2023, on a scorching afternoon when FAZ representatives descended on her homestead, located nearly 5km from the Mozambican border, and donated a wheelchair.
“I want to thank FAZ and President Mnangagwa for this gift of a car,” said Gogo Jambaya.
“Now I am able to go anywhere, including attending Zanu PF meetings.
“I thank you so much.”
FAZ team leader for Chipinge South Mr James Maphosa said he was happy that they had made a difference in Gogo Jambaya’s life.
“Our members in this Ward (28), Emmanuel Garawa, and Servemore Ziyabanga went around their community and identified a challenge that needed to be solved, and here we are today.
“We were sent by President Mnangagwa to go around communities and check what the people need on a small scale, and we try to resolve the challenges.
“We will continue to work in the communities and assist others,” said Mr Maphosa.
Chipinge South Constituency legislator Cde Enoch Porusingazi said: “As MP, I am happy with the assistance that Gogo Jambaya has received from FAZ.
“She couldn’t walk, she couldn’t attend meetings, she couldn’t attend women’s clubs.
“This is the first time in about 37 years that she can move around.
“President Mnangagwa said he doesn’t select anyone, and today his people are here, about 4,5km from the Mozambican border. Indeed, he is leaving no one and no place behind.”
Gogo Jambaya also got groceries from FAZ members.
Importantly, she got the US$270 required by doctors to check if she has not developed cancer on the area affected by the landmine.
FAZ representatives in Musikavanhu Constituency also donated US$40 and R500 to Gogo Jambaya.
